Why We Believe...

Most of the objections we encounter as young Catholics towards our Catholic Faith usually emanate from individuals who believe the basis of their objections is Scriptural. More often than not, we encounter claims from even our close peers that the teachings of the Catholic Church very much contradict the clear teachings of the Bible. A very sad but rather unfortunate occurrence over the years has been that such misrepresentations have led numerous souls out of the Church. However, the Holy Scriptures read in context fully support the teachings of the Church.
The word apologetics is derived from the ancient Greek word apologia which means an apology. Not an apology in the modern sense - which means to say you are sorry about something. Rather an apology in the ancient sense of the word, which means to make a reasoned defense of something or someone.
Apologetics is a branch of Theology which is all about knowing why we do what we do and believe what we believe. Apologetics is concerned with building the case for our Faith; learning how to explain and defend our Faith with confidence and with ease.
Very often in life as Catholic Youths, we will come across people quoting Bible passages in a bid to “prove” that the Catholic Church is wrong. As a Catholic Christian, it is very much important that you be able to politely point out to them that you believe everything the Bible says, however you may be in disagreement with their private interpretation of the passages. And in order to achieve this, you have to know what you believe, and why you believe.
Every Saturday evening within the Society’s WHATSAPP group, we discuss a wide array of questions which we encounter from our fellow brothers and sisters concerning our Faith and we equip one another with knowledge to tackle such questions with ease and great confidence while at the same time displaying gentleness and respect in our responses..
